Pauline et Marco / Pauline and Marco

HE WISHES HE CAME FROM ANOTHER WORLD. SHE’S ALWAYS DREAMED OF MEETING AN ALIEN. A BRIGHT, QUIRKY NOVEL ILLUSTRATED BY CHARLES BERBERIAN, WITH RALPH DOUMIT’S TENDER, EMPATHETIC AND CHARMING WRITING.

Marco wishes he was from another planet. Pauline wishes she could meet an alien. So, when Marco posts an ad in the newspaper saying just, ‘Flying saucer. Blue and orange. Lost.’, Pauline is intrigued. She doesn’t realise it’s just a wooden toy with sentimental value. Instead, she thinks it’s a UFO that landed nearby many years ago. She quickly replies: ‘I’ve got a lead. If you read this message, meet me on Friday morning.’ And so begins an investigation and a friendship between Pauline, 11, and Marco, 10, fuelled by misunderstandings and their wild imaginations. He lies by omission (so that Pauline will like him) and she fervently believes him. But as the days go by, it becomes more and more difficult to hide the truth. Marco is about to tell Pauline everything when, suddenly, she disappears…
