The Secret Life of Shadows – The Trailblazers
LOUISON AND HER SHADOW POMME LIVE IN A RUTHLESS ECOLOGICAL REPUBLIC AND ARE BOTH DESTINED TO THE SAME FATE… BUT CAN THEY WITHSTAND THEIR CRUEL TRAINING?
In an alternative future, the Republic of Lilacs has been established, a society founded on ecological and security grounds, in which men and women live separately. Their natural shadows have disappeared but, following the genetic modification of embryos to remove all negative feelings, artificial ones have appeared. These colourless, barely conscious doubles, watch their humans constantly and take no interest in anything. Except for Pomme, Louison’s shadow: colourful and full of life, she learns at the same time as the girl. Taken in by Maya, a nanny who teaches them about the world before through books, which are forbidden in this world, Louison and Pomme discover the city of men. There they meet Vanel, Milan, who falls in love with Pomme, and Master Sabio, the creator of modified embryos and therefore of shadows. But Louison soon discovers her destiny. At the age of 12, she is recruited by the government for a secret mission… They train her to endure isolation, darkness and cruelty, with only her inner strength and the precious help of her shadow. Meanwhile, Pomme decides to set up a school for shadows, to free them and help them start a new life.
Will Louison and her double succeed in their missions? What if the Republic of Lilacs isn’t the peaceful society they’ve always been told it is?
