Philippe Bretelle is a graphic designer/illustrator. He began working with Les Éditions Verticales, for whom he created book covers and communication design
Since 2010, he has been the artistic director of Éditions Gang, but also works for institutions such as the Nouveau Théâtre de Besançon.
On the margins of his graphic activities, Philippe Bretelle pursues an artistic practice inspired by everyday objects (vinyl records, flags, ironing boards or banknotes) to divert them from their meaning and assemble them, playing against their type. In 2017, he signed with Yves Pagès, the collection Tiens ils ont repeint! 50 ans d’aphorismes urbains, (La Découverte).
He created the graphic design of many children’s books on behalf of helium, a successfull collaboration that has been going on since 2014. So much so that in 2021, helium published its first youth book Tu vois quoi? , a book with flaps and totemic shape.
